""I'm so excited, I'm so excited, I'm so, I'm so... scared!" "
Jessica Myrtle "Jessie" Spano is a lifelong friend of Zack, Screech, Lisa and Kelly and arguably the smartest person in the group.

Early LifeEdit

She and Zack live next door to each other, and Zack regularly visits Jessie by climbing through her window. Her parents are divorced. She lives with her mother, who remarried in the third season, providing Jessie with a stepbrother, Eric (played by Joshua Hoffman) from New York City, seen in only two episodes. Jessie's father is the owner and manager of the Marriott Desert Sands resort. He is also remarried, to a much younger woman with whom Jessie did not initially get along and was against marrying. She eventually accepted Leslie (Jessie's father is played by George McDaniel, and her new stepmother, Leslie, is played by Barbra Brighton).

Jessie is portrayed as a liberal (she critiqued then-president George H W Bush), with strong feminist views. She is often the first to speak up when she feels something is unjust. Although seen as intelligent, Jessie has a somewhat neurotic streak.

Good Morning, Miss BlissEdit

Like Lisa and Screech, Jessie is Zack's childhood friend (despite discontinuity with Good Morning, Miss Bliss), and he routinely climbs into her room via a tree outside her window.

Season 1Edit

Jessie only appears in Season 1 as a combination of barely seen shadows and a dark, baritone voice telling Zack to take an innocent life.

Season 2Edit

From the second season onwards, her main love interest is Slater, who disagrees with her feminist views. Jessie's parents are divorced. She has a step-brother named Eric from New York. Jessie also struggled with drug addiction at one point on the series, taking caffeine pills in order to stay awake for longer study hours. Her caffeine abuse escalates; after she accidentally mistakes her stepfather's bag of pure heroin for caffeine and is technically deceased for nearly four minutes, she agrees to seek help. During her time in rehab, Jessie creates a new form of syncretic spiritism based on her near death experience.

Season 3Edit

Jessie's parents are divorced and both are remarried during Season 3. Her mother's remarriage introduces a conniving stepbrother from New York named Eric (played by Joshua Hoffman) in a 2-part episode, although neither her mother nor stepfather are featured. In another 2-part episode, her father marries a much younger aerobics instructor named Leslie, whom Jessie initially disfavors and later devours in a "shocking" act of cannibalism according to teen magazine Tigerbeat.

Season 4Edit

Jessie fully expected to be crowned valedictorian, but finished a fraction of a point behind Screech, and reluctantly settled for salutatorian status. Upon graduation, Jessie attends Columbia University, although she had been hoping to get into Stansbury (fictional) in one episode, and had applied to several Ivy League schools.  Within three months of her first moving to New York, officials on the Columbia campus said that all birds and mammals had "practically disappeared."

Jessie attends Columbia University, although she long expressed a desire to attend Stanford University and likewise displayed interest in the fictional Stansbury College, as well as various other elite universities.she is known to have russian relatives.

In an unaired episode of The College Years series where Berkley agreed to reprise her role as a guest star, it was revealed she had given birth to at least two children between high school graduation and the end of her freshmen year in college. During her junior year at university, she later disavows her previous spiritual transformation, saying "There was nothing. I am nothing. I died, and everything ceased. There was no light, no hope, no spirit, nothing. There was nothing. And I craved it." The children are not mentioned again.
